He cracked the code, then took it to the mattresses!!;-)

So, yesterday, totally unexpectedly, Gabe cracked the code, he became a reader!  He figured out that all the letters together meant something, and how to string those somethings together, with help from mama, and they became words, woohoo!!!  He may be the easiest reader I have had yet, as he quickly figured out that the same letters, in the same order were the same word, amazing I tell you, and any mom who has sat through her kids re-sound out the same letters and words over and over can agree, AWESOME!!!!!
This was so exciting we had to make an announcement to daddy, poor, still sleeping, long suffering daddy!!:-)  So we "took it to the mattresses" ( I have wanted to use that phrase since Meg Ryan kick boxed her way through it in "You've got mail", phew, one more item off my bucket list;-).  We went up and woke up daddy with the exciting news "we have a new reader in the family!!!"  daddy was understandable surprised, and happy, and G proceeded to read his HOP book to daddy with little help from mama, WOW!!!!!
This may seem like a big deal to make of something that comes to most people, easily or not, but eventually we all tend to get it(notwithstanding the illiterate epidemic sweeping the nation:-( !), but for G we were not sure about this, he really struggles with certain tasks, and the ability to turn letters and sounds into something else is not a skill his brain can handle.  Writing came easier since it requires only that the brain see and move hand, basic tracing, and right brain stuff, so his strong side there, but the addition of seeing and translating them in his head, then making the right sounds, and remembering them, ooohh, that is both sides of the brain together, yipes.  When you are missing 1/4 of your left brain, this is problematic, so I was concerned, and worried that he would really struggle, and for him struggle translates into inability to control his body in a organized fashion for basic locomotion and such, so struggle for a long term is not pretty in our house!  Surprise to mama, he gets it, and retains it, at least short term, this gives me hope that at some point he might translate the sounds himself, and retain what they mean, and even enjoy reading, this is our goal, so here is to hoping and praying that for once his brain will not hold my little man back!!!!
Now, off to read a new book with my little reader, yay yay yay yay!!!!!
