"Cultured Kids"
Each a work of art!!

So, Friday I braved the Museum of Fine Arts, and took all 5 kids, via, trains, subways and cars we transferred, hopped onto, off of, and under just to view some great art, and it was totally worth it!!!!
the kids have been studying artists for a while now, and Renoir is our personal fave, we have been looking at his art, how he helped to change the art movement, and how he actually created his art, the mechanics of it all.  So, this trip was something of a final exam for them, and they passed with flying colors, J noticed how the paint in the Millet paintings was kind of globs and blobs, up close, but when viewed from a few feet away she could see how they melded together to form the sky and water and all the shades in between, Success!!!  Mia and K were standing with their noses pressed to the glass, inches from the paintings, they were wowed by the detail, and how you could see brush strokes, my babies were getting it!!!  Yay, the summers art study was coming to fruition, awesome!!  The kids even managed to wow some sweet old ladies with their understanding of how the mechanics worked, and why this was such a change from the previous art periods(they "taught" me a quick study on Impressionistic painting, very informative, for all in the Hall with us:-)
I have really wanted the kids to experience art, how it is meant to be viewed, subjectively, evoking emotions, and responses, and to teach them to find their own love for art, in any form.  This was the culmination of our beginners course, and I pronounce them Artiste's, in the making!!  They wandered the museum with sketchbooks and colored pencils in hand, stopping and doing quick sketches of things that caught their eye, stopping to allow little man to rest in the mummy wing to study the art of the sarcophagus, and then moving on to other halls, with gorgeous Renaissance paintings of the Crucifixion, the colors so vibrant you would think they were painted last year, wow.
It was a wonderful day, with everyone finding at least one piece of art they were moved by, K loved the whole hall of Christian art:-), and well armed with postcards of our favorite paintings, we left, tired, but fulfilled, and a bit more well cultured than when we went in.  Also for those who wondered, the kids were very well behaved, and polite, and much nicer than most of the adults we ran into that day, I will take them back another day, if any one wants to join us let me know!!
