So, black Friday was good for me, got up late, around 5:55, all in good time to make Children's place, found nothing there, went to Old Navy, got 3 shirts, then hit it large at Crazy 8's!! Such sweet stuff, a sub company of Gymboree, and lovely prices to go with the gorgeous clothes, got a sweet sweater dress for Mia, a ruffled sweater for J, and tan cords for little man(the last for our X-mas photos). Then off to Joann's for fabric, I am committed to sewing snuggly pants for the kids this year, and G is making satchels for the girls for their Bibles, plus some nice bags for gifts that Mary at Owlhaven makes each year, they look pretty easy and fun.
Once home I headed straight into crafty mode, we cut pasted, cut some more, and made the decorations for a few dozen Christmas cards, all sweet, to be given as gifts and sent as cards.
For these cards all you need are scrapbook paper scraps(any patterns and colors will work, in Christmas colors for this craft), heavy gauge cardstock(cut into 2 1/2 inch wide slices, think book mark size)a package of blank cards and envelopes, watered down glue, scissors, buttons or glitter, and a paper trimmer to make it go faster (step one picture). Slice all your scrap paper into pieces, 1/4 - 1/2 inch wide (no longer than 2 1/2 inches is best), I divided the paper into colored piles, working with mostly green, red, gold and white(step 2 pic). Then comes the fun, paint your thinned glue onto your 2 1/2 inch cardstock, then take your chosen paper strips, and place them down, side by side until you have covered the whole of your cardstock strip, being sure to cover all the white cardstock(step 3 pic). Once it is dry cut the side bits off so all your are left with is a 2 1/2 inch wide strip of colored paper strips(step 4 pic). Cut this into lengths suitable for your cards, I am using 4x5 cards, so my trees are 3 inches tall, and I then cut the rectangle diagonally to make triangles, then trim to shape a rustic, angled tree(step 5). With a bit of scrap brown I make a trunk for this fun evergreen, and voila, a fun and fanciful card your kids can make with scraps and while it is messy it can also be very sweet and keeps hands busy. Also to be added, small buttons, glitter garland or dots, sequins, etc for fun and glam, have fun!!! I will add pics of the finished cards soon, plus pics of some of the other crafts we did.
