strides,leaps and bounds...

Strides, leaps, bounds, that is what we seem to be making lately in some areas. Last week, Gabe showed off how powerful his arms and shoulders have become, he pushed up, and held himself off the upper parallel uneven bar, hard work for him. His somersaults are even and straight now too, and suddenly he can stroke and kick both legs better, and with more of a regular rhythm, woohoo. In school work he suddenly has made huge leaps, surpassing what I imagined he could do, showing off his comprehension of the phonetic alphabet, and the shapes of different letters, plus knowing all of his numbers on sight up to ten, and being able to count up to 40, easily!! He has also gotten the concept of adding and subtracting quite easily using poker chips, good stuff. I am so happy for him, since he really seems to struggle in other ways, that he is suddenly excelling in many areas. He also has a real knack for tessellation, and for seeing a tessellated shape, and being able to figure out the smaller shapes(diamonds, squares, triangles etc) that make it up. This is not easy, I do not do this well, as it requires that you see the negative space of things, as opposed to what is actually there, and to extrapolate from it, and he is a whiz at them, better than the girls even!!!!
So huge leaps are being made, and it is so uplifting for both of us, since I always worry if he is truly understanding what I am telling him, and if it is comprehension, or memorization that he is displaying. He hears all of the girls lessons too, so this seems to help, as he gets weeks of the same lessons, then months later gets to learn them for himself, and it really seems to work, so we will keep moving him forward into pre-k, steps, hops, leaps and bounds...
